They were police actions. Had the invasions been approved by congress, they would have been wars.
Other than Military Operations; since WW2, Korea & Vietnam.
WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War and the War on Terror
All wars with all nations, excepting Vietnam. Correction: On a technical scale, the U.S. has never lost a war. The Korean and Vietnam wars were called to cease fires, except for the fact that we made the last push in Korea so the U.S. had a lasting impression, whereas North Vietnam struck again right as we left.
The US chose NOT to deploy nuclear weapons. (The US did deploy nuclear weapons against Japan in WWII). The US chose NOT to invade North Vietnam. (The US did invade North Korea during the Korean War).
Very few, most "South" Koreans (mostly females) immigrated to the US as "war brides" (as in most US wars). South Korea didn't fall to the North as South Vietnam fell to North Vietnam...consequently there wasn't the mass exodus from the Korean War as their had been from the Vietnam War.
They were both hot battles of the cold war; both fought against communism, both fought between North and South adversaries, and both wars were sponsored & equipped by Red China and the USSR. Their were three basic differences: 1. Korea was fought on a peninsula; Vietnam was not. 2. Korea could be and was isolated (controlled by the US/Allies); Vietnam could not. 3. Korea was won (the communists were stopped); Vietnam was lost.
The US is trying to establish law, order and stability to Iraq. WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam were wars against a foreign nation. The US is NOT AT WAR with the nation of Iraq; we are policing it; arresting and terminating terrorists, etc.
In the Vietnam War the US opposed the invasion of South Korea by North Korea. The fighters from North Korea, who used guerilla tactics, were known as the Viet Cong.
North Korea
Vietnam and Korea .
The US is not at war with Iraq. The US was at war with North Vietnam.
"Mutually Assured Destruction." This is why Korea and Vietnam had to be fought as "Limited Wars." Limited to the use of conventional weapons only.
