War is usually good for the economy. The US had a booming economy because of the war. Britain and all of Europe (not Russia though) suffered greatly after the war. They had war debts and there was a lot to be rebuilt and they needed food all over Europe. They did recover but it took like ten years to make headway. England did not even get off rationing until 1955. So while there was not a worldwide depression many places suffered from the aftereffects of the war.
