Not all the proverbs are Solomon's. It's a book of proverbs many of which are Solomon's.

Jewish tradition is that Proverbs was written with Divine inspiration and contains meanings on many levels. It contains the wisdom of Solomon; much of it couched in parables; and parts were collated by the Sages of King Hezekiah (Proverbs 25:1).

Answer:

As far as we know, there is no saying of Solomon in the Book of Proverbs. The book was compiled over 500 years after he is said to have lived.

A:

Tradition says that Solomon himself wrote the Book of Proverbs, including his wise sayings in it. However, scholars have established that the Book of Proverbs was really written shortly after the Babylonian Exile and therefore long after the time attributed to King Solomon. The book does contain some pre-Exilic material, including passages that originated in Egypt, but nothing that can be identified with Solomon.

Certainly the Book of Proverbs does contain a number of wise sayings, but there is no reason to believe that any of them were handed down from King Solomon. The Book of Proverbs was actually written in stages, or layers, during the Babylonian Exile, many centuries after the time attributed to Solomon. Some of the saings in the Book of Proverbs have even been traced back to early Egyptian traditions.

The earliest layer of the Book of Proverbs concerns Lady Wisdom, a spirit/goddess who entered Jewish belief during the time of the Babylonian Exile. Later (lower-case) wisdom material seems to have been added, some of which might have been attributed originally to Widom, but much of which was probably to obscure her presence in the Book.

One who learns Proverbs with the commentary of the Vilna Gaon, or that of the Malbim, gets a glimpse into the vast depth of this Book.
