Because at the time only US had them & were prepared to drop 50 more if needed. 1 of those was equivalent to a full week of bombing runs. The Emperor was not about to let his country be completely destroyed. Tokyo was only saved because rain was predicted that day. The US wanted to force a surrender since the Japanese were fierce fighters & on their own soil would cost astronomical nos. of American lives.
