The US Military issued two types of malaria pills to each US serviceman while they were there. One small white pill to be taken daily, and one large orange (or tan) looking pill to be taken once a week. Most GI's followed the pill taking procedure for their first week or two, then disregarded them for the rest of their remaining tour.

Well, if you mean the Vietnamese army, it helped their stamina, allowing them to function for long periods and sometimes keep fighting through grievous injuries. This tactic was also used by U.S. troops, but to a lesser extent.
During the Vietnam War each "C" ration accessory package contained one pack (4 to 5) of commercially produced cigarettes. And after a heavy firefight you'd be surprised about how many non-smoking GIs suddenly wanted a cigarette!
The accessory package was the brown envelope inside the "C" ration box (meal). Todays 21st military person has the very same looking accessory package in their MREs (Meal Ready to Eat) but it doesn't contain any tobacco products.
