John Smith was important because he was a member of the council that ruled over the Jamestown settlement and was the third president of Virginia. He not only had this authority but was also an author later in his life and even mapped out a lot of Virginia.

Pocahontas was important because she was the youngest and the favorite out of all of Chief Powhatan's daughters. She made peace with the English settlers and kept them alive, even making them aware of an attack which her father had been planning.

I hope this helped. : )
