With the need for war material production, the building of ships, planes, tanks and other war related goods increased dramatically. With much of the male labor force joining the military it only made good sense to place women in the positions vacated by the men. The women would fill non traditional roles as welders, steamfitters, electricians, machinery operators and air traffic controllers. They would also serve in the more traditional roles as secretaries, typists, and seamstresses.
The war production was a never ceasing twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week undertaking and it could not have been done as safely and efficiently without the women regardless of what job they did. Had the women not stepped up as they did, the World Wars may have taken a very different course.

During World War II (1939-1945), many women answered the call of the U.S. government and went to work in droves to produce needed supplies for the war effort.
=When the men left for war suddenly there were thousands of jobs that needed to be filled. This gave thousands of opportunities to women to try new jobs. It showed the men in World War 1 as well that women could do more. Some jobs that women were given were, working on the land, on transport, in hospitals, in industry, in engineering, in factories, building ships and doing work such as loading and unloading coal. Some problems were that the women got paid much, much less than the men.=
Because men thought women needed to only do house work and they cannot vote or anything like that.
Yes, many women do still work in those industries.
Women were needed because so many men were in the military.

Women typically didn't work in factories until WWII, except in the garment industries. There was some unionization but not nearly as much as in other industries. Women faced horrible conditions as evidenced by the triangle shirtwaist fire.

Women needed to bring in extra income during this time.
During the 1970s, women were able to get decent paying jobs in both white-collar and blue-collar industries. Prior to this, women were forced to accept lower pay because it was assumed that they relied on their husbands for primary financial support. Daycare and after-school programs made it possible for women to work longer hours. With women entering the workforce, families were able to purchase larger homes, better cars, and more consumer goods. This changed the American standard-of-living, and led to the creation of the two-income household. Now, husbands either needed to make more money, or women needed to work.
its because of shortage of labourers who are mainly men but who are at war .to compensate it women started working in factories, industries etc.
The major recovery of the depression was engaging people to work in industries. The women were included in the work force which helped to rebuild the economy.
