The French treated them right, but the British were jerks to them. At one point, the British fought the French, and the Native Americans fought alongside the French to support them.
They thought that since they had protected the colonies in the french and Indian war, that they had the right to tax them to pay off the debt.

yes the british had no right to tax the colonists
Yes. The British government needed help to pay for the French and Indian War which they helped the colonists fight. The colonists should have helped pay for their war. Besides at this time colonists were still British officials. The government had every right to tax them.
We might not have half of the land we have right now.
The British captured Montreal in 1760 after years of fighting during the French and Indian War. The British had built forts surrounding French Canada during this time, pressuring the French to surrender. The supports the British colonists received from Parliment and William Penn during this time allowed them to secure their land and right to trade in North America. Soon after the capture of Montreal, the Treaty of Paris was signed, ending the French and Indian War. The British captured Montreal in 1760 after years of fighting during the French and Indian War. If you meant "Was France a British colony?" then the answer is no. The 13 colonies were in New England, now called The United States of America. They were established by English men, and France really didn't have anything to do with that except there was a French Indian war right before the colonies were established that drove the French and Spaniards out of New England to make room for the colonies. If you have any other questions, I am a historian and specialize in Colonial America, and if you have any further questions I am happy to answer them. Thank you.
The Thirteen colonies were heavily taxed by the British and deserved they had a right to be in the British government(after all they deserved a say, they were British colonies. They had no say in these choices of taxes.) many other contributors also led to the Revolutionary War. A war in which the 13 colonies (with a lot of help from the French [in fact, the French played a HUGEpart, winning would not have been possible without them, in fact we were far from it before they joined.] and some help from the Spanish) fought against the British for independence.
