The pyramids were built on the west because the Egyptians believed the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. They believed Ra, the Sun god, travled from day to night every day. On the west bank other tombs were built but smaller and not noticible. They were not noticible because giant structures were known to stand as a symbol of importance.

It was believed a certain god would be reborn in the east when the sun rose and then when it set it would be on the west side of the nile, and when it set egyptians believed the god had died, only to be reborn when the sun rose once more. so they put the dead people in tombs on the west side because it was so called the land of the dead (for the sun rise sun set god dying and coming back thing)

(i know that sounded complicated but its not ok?)
