On the First Fleet that arrived in Australia in 1788, some animals such as dogs were brought from Britain, but livestock was purchased from ports along the way.
Some of the livestock was purchased for food to be used on the voyage (e.g. chickens), and other livestock was purchased to help build up herds of animals in the new colony which could then be used for food.
Marsupials were taken for food.
The First Fleet was made up primarily of convicts. There were many sailors, marines and officers as well, and a large number of stock animals.
Because that there would be no cattle and farm animals to produce meat and wool
The First Fleet mostly transported convicts from England, along with the officers and marines who guarded them. Naturally, rations and stock animals were also transported.
Each time the First Fleet stopped, it was to purchase more provisions and stock animals to get the new colony started once they arrived in New South Wales.
"Fleet" generally refers to ships, not animals.
The animals in the first fleet all died in transport. That was why Admiral Coates called back to the planet Alcoora and had them send the second fleet. This time the animals were shielded from tachions as the ship went into warp, and 5,782 of the 6,329 animals sent survived the trip to Earth. Unfortunetley, no parragoos, specklies, or unicorns survived to be released on Earth. When the second fleet arrived on Earth the colonists already here held the first Festival of the Beasts, on February 18, 4518 BCE.
The First Fleet was known as the First Fleet when it came to Australia.
This was the First Fleet. It comprised 11 ships, which carried convicts, officers, marines, and supplies and stock animals for the new British colony.
