Because they segregated them.
It's not a matter of Whites Destroying Blacks! Violence has been around since the beginning of time with all men (women) of race. The first crime in the Bible was cane killing his brother able and so on. Whites Destroy Whites, Blacks Destroy Blacks, it's I think racism is overrated!
us being able to get along with the whites and blacks
tHIS QUESTION IS A LOADED ONE. LIKE ASKING IF WHITES THINK THEY WILL STILL BE ABLE TO OPPRESS BLACKS AT WILL.
slaves would fight for their freedom if they could but their masters werent allowing them to read or to write, or leave their masters home, so all the slaves couldnt meet up and make weapons, and make a big army ready. at the time the whites had empowerment over the blacks, and if the blacks got caught leaving they would be wipped, basically they didnt have time, the power, the communication, or the resources.... but the good news is theyre free now
They got their rights and became able to live life like the whites and not feel inferior.
It was a message of hope. MLK hoped that one day blacks and whites would be able to live together in peace.
In 1936 only the whites could vote. The blacks and women were not able to vote back then.
Before the Civil War, most slaves were born into slavery because the importation of slaves was made illegal. As a result, most of the freed slaves did not know how to live as free people. After Reconstruction, whites were able to maintain control over blacks by keeping them in poverty and by keeping them segregated. They were kept in poverty when their former masters would give them land to farm, known as sharecropping, while paying them very little to do this. Also, when blacks and whites were segregated, the quality of whatever was given to the blacks was usually unequal to the quality of what was given to the whites, for example education and jobs.
Whites tried to enslave Native Americans but they were able to run away. The Portuguese bought black slaves from West Africa and sold them to the West Indies and the American colonies.
NO blacks and whites could not mix easily at all especially around the 1950's and 60's. they weren't given the same opportunities as them. (like jobs, education, colleg etc) being a black was hard, especcially being humiliated often because of it. So if blacks and whites did mix it wasen't easily and probably not wanted by both colours.
There was widespread racism in the 1920's. Blacks and Mexican immigrants, along with Jews and Catholics, were single out persecution as whites became determined to preserve what they considered to be the Anglo-American heritage. Blacks and Mexican immigrants were at the bottom of the wage scale and only able to work the most menial of jobs.
their views were that black people was just as able to do anything that the white people could do and that the black people just wanted to be treated the same as the whites were. There is more info at the attached link.
