Why when opening a pdf file directly from a website it opens in notepad when Adobe Acrobat is installed?

Possible causes:
If you have Adobe Acrobat installed, and pdf files open up in notepad, then the problem could be the file is a txt file renamed as .pdf. Or more likely it could be the pdf file type is registered to notepad.
Solutions(Assumes you have Windows XP):
You can fix or check this by opening my documents, select folder options - File Type Tab, scroll to PDF, and click edit and manually change to open with acrobat.exe instead of notepad.
Re-installing or repair installing adobe acrobat should work also, but may cause other issues.

right click on it, select "open with" select adobe acrobat reader from the list provided, and it should open in a readable format. You must have adobe acrobat reader installed in your pc, you may download it from adobe website if you don't have it.
