Why will Kate Middleton be called queen and Prince Philip not called king?

Phillip is Prince Phillip and not King Phillip because the throne of England was not rightfully his, he married in to the English Monarchy. In this instance had it been his by birth and he had married Elizabeth, Elizabeth would be Queen Consort. As it is, she is Queen Regnant and he cannot be considered Kings Consort as it is perceived a King holds more power than a Queen. So, Queen Elizabeth II is married to Prince Phillip (of Greece). He could have held the title of King had he been a King of some other monarchy by birth.

However, in the past when Queen Mary married Philip of Spain, who was a King, he consequently jointly ruled England. This caused problems within the country, so ever since then any women who has become Queen and married has had a consort. This ensures that the Queen is in charge. Also, the problems it caused was one of the reasons that Queen Elizabeth the first did not marry.
