you probably have a bad transmission, or try to drain it and then fill it with some stuff called prolong.
once you fill it put your e brake on and leave it in drive for a half hour at idle, after that see if it shifts for you.

put your foot on the brake push in the button the button in an the shifter and move it back to reverse or drive that's for an automatic anyway

Do you mean the switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel that shows OFF at the top and a " P " and small triangle at the bottom ? That is the switch to shut off the reverse sensing system ( park assist ) You can only shut off the reverse sensing system when the ignition is on and the gear selector is in reverse
