I found out the answer to my own question: because the battery was almost dead. It probably didn't even need a new starter. check the voltage on your battery before diagnosing a bad starter. sheesh, what's wrong with me.
Install a manual gauge to check actual pressure or try Replacing oil sending unit
AnswerCheck wires on starter - maybe "trigger" wire on starter solenoidMay be bad starter? I just replaced the starter motor on my 1990 4 cylinder engine Chevy Lumina. The starter is located in front of the oil pan. It was reachable and can be seen from under the front of the car a little to the right. You have to remove a three bolt attached plastic part by the oil pan to be able to get to one of the starter motor bolts. Good luck.
if there is a single click when you turn the key i would lean toward a starter being bad if there is multiple rapid clicks then i would lean toward a battery
IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT ENGINE IS IN THE CAR. JUST A VERY ROUGH GUESS ABOUT TWO HOURS LABOR AND ABOUT 95 TO 125 BUCKS FOR THE STARTER
on drivers side on the side of the engine behind the radiator down low, just follow the positive battery cable from the battery and it will bolt to the starter.
well depanding on ther truck if you have a ford with a starter solenoid on the pass firewall when you try to start it with the key it should make a click sound if not you have a bad starter solenoid if a Chevy and your jumping it from the starter it self you have a bad solenoids i would replace it Chevy you can some times buy the solenoid it self but i would buy a new starter just in case
If you can't get it to start with a good battery and you can't see any bad wires, etc. - you need to remove it and take it to a parts store to be checked. (it probably makes sense to just replace it while it's off.) at $200.00 for the starter i would make real sure you need one also check all the starter relays, and your ign switch. ANSWER: Just buy a new starter!
if you mean can a novice replace the starter, the answer is yes. any other repairs to starter just depend on what needs replacing
My suggestion is to make sure that you have a good connection between your starter and your battery. Is the starter even functioning? If not, it is probably a bad starter, a bad battery, a bad fusible link for the starter, a blown fuse, or just a bad connection. The alternator,or starter might need replacing,or the battery might be dead.
Check all fuses to include those in engine bay, then all connections of battery cables - not just the ones at the battery posts. Start using a little logic and find out what's wrong before replacing more parts. Power directly to the low side of the solenoid should force the starter. If that works but the starter doesn't work with the keyswitch, it might just be the neutral lockout.
