This sounds like a complete transmission or drive train failure. But further questions need to be answered. Do feel resistance when moving the the gear selection lever or is it extremely loose? Have you tried Reverse or manual '1' rather then 'Drive' with the same results? Check the transmission level and condition you should have a transparent red and not a dark brown color? Did you experience any slippage or excess engine rpm previous to this condition? Answer these then I could be more helpful.

No your car just wont come out of park.
sounds like a vacume leak to me
a major part of an automatic transmission... A torque converter is what couples the engine to the transmission. It acts a little bit like a clutch and allow the engine to drive the transmission. At slow engine speeds, like at idle, it slips so the engine will not stall while the transmission is in gear. As engine speed (RPM) increases it allows the engine to drive the transmission. This is just the basic idea of what a torque converter does.
If the problem disappears when the shifter in placed in neutral it could be a transmission or engine mounts
Check tranmission fluid level. Start engine run through all gears twice then check level.

One of the first clues that a person has to replace automatic transmission is that it is slipping. This happens when the engine revs higher, but the vehicle is not moving any faster. The vehicle may seem like the wheels are not connected to the engine, like the transmission is in neutral, and then it may catch suddenly, and drive under full power.
Sounds like the neutral switch is out of position on the shifter or transmission
yes, its in Neutral.
Sounds like a neutral safety switch. Did you make sure it was in park or neutral? Did the neutral safety come unplugged somehow? Sounds like a neutral safety switch. Did you make sure it was in park or neutral? Did the neutral safety come unplugged somehow?
It would be good if you stated what kind of car and trans you have. It can be either engine or trans mounts especially if it is front wheel drive. Have it checked out. GoodluckJoe
It runs, but the driveshaft is not engaged, works just like a car.
