On my '96 Outback Wagon there's a rocker switch on top of the steering column, just forward of the steering wheel. It is marked with a "P" - if it is switched ON, a red color bar shows toward the driver. Try switching it to the other position, parking lights should be OFF. I think there's a separate switch because on the Outback, the lights controlled by the regular steering column switch go on and off with the ignition. I know of other cars that have a similar switch there for the hazard flashers, but on the Outback, it's the parking light switch. ;-)
The parking lights on a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix will not shut off if the switch has become damaged or the wiring has a short. This will trigger the lights to stay on regardless of the input from the driver.
Some vehicle makes have a delay or timer on the parking lights, allowing the driver and its occupants to exit the vehicle and, say, enter their place of residence. They should shut off within 15 to 30 seconds, depending on the installed delay. On my '96 Outback Wagon there's a rocker switch on top of the steering column, just forward of the steering wheel. It is marked with a "P" - if it is switched ON, a red color bar shows toward the driver. Try switching it to the other position, parking lights should be OFF. Turn your head lights off before you shut the car off
engage the parking brake , or shut the engine off
Check to make sure you didn't bump the switch on the top of the steering column (directly behind the steering wheel) that turns the parking lights on permanently. Was this the final answer? Do not bump the switch in the steering column? That's pretty lame!
Check the adjustment of the brake light switch.
When your parking light stays on after you shut off the car, it is likely that the relay on that circuit stayed on. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so and then reconnect it.
I would suspect a bad headlight and / or turnsignal switch assembly. I just ran across this problem recently with an 89 Aerostar with an Astrostart remote starter. When using the remote to lock the vehicle, the parking lights flash on and off. Something with the Astrostart was keeping the parking lights on until I shut the power off to the remote starter and from that point on the parking lights shut off fine. I don't know though what in the Astrostart is causing it. I don't know anything about remote starters. The owner is happy that his battery no longer goes dead but now he has to get help with the remote starter.
Shut the car off, engage the parking brake and when you turn the car back on the lights will stay off until you release the parking brake.
Depends on the type of car. My mom's car take about 5 minutes while my dads turns off immediately.
There should be a switch on top of the steering column. Press this switch and they should cancel out.
by design the DAY-TIME-RUNNING lights are not intended to be turned off by choice. When you start the 99 blazer with the parking brake on, the DTR lights are off. When you release the parking brake they come on. When you park again and apply the parking brake the DTR lights will stay on, unless you stop the engine and re-start the engine. Since the DTR lights are inter-wired to the regular headlights, they can not be defeated without affecting the regular headlights.
