There are lots of possible reasons. It may not have been saved properly. You may not be using the correct version or type of software to open it. The file could be corrupted. If you are opening in a different place than last time, try opening it where it was first saved and with the same software. You may just have to create the file again or find an earlier version and work from that if you can't find a solution.
