My guess is you installed the pitman arm incorrectly. Remove the pitman arm from the steering box, set the wheels straight, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then turn it all the way to the right counting the turns as you go. Divide the number of turns in half and turn the wheel that number to the left then reattach the pitman arm.

A larger steering wheel on a truck provides more leverage for the driver to turn the larger, heavier vehicle. This helps to improve steering control, especially when maneuvering at low speeds or when the truck is fully loaded. Additionally, the larger size allows for easier steering input while wearing gloves or with larger hands.
Hard power steering means there is little to no fluid left in the system. The power steering system should be flushed and checked for leaks.
