Is the old washer still stuck on the block?
you're not getting it seated all the way. the clip has to snap onto the top of the spark plug.
1st thing to check is the spark. Remove a spark plug from the engine and plug it to the spark plug boot. Touch the plug to the cylinder head and crack the engine. Should see spark at the tip of the plug. If no spark, 2nd thing I would check is the crank position switch. It is located on the transaxle bell housing.
if you buy a new spark plug for your 2001 xr80r and it has a gap setting, set the setting all the way to the top of the plug as far as you can get it.
only way to fix a spark plug is to replace the problem plug with a new one
the nmber one spark plug in all way to the right of the engine block with you standing in front of the car.
In many automobile engine configurations, a spark plug socket is the only way you will ever get at the plug. But even in situations whee the hex on the plug is easily accessible (lawnmower, for example) a spark plug socket is still the best way to remove it without damage to the plug.
Either you plug is bad, the cable is bad, or the key way in the bike is bad, also the generator is off its set position or the contact.
The best way is to use the spark plug socket out of the factory tool kit. If you do not have that use a normal 5/8" socket to loosen the spark plug. Use the spark plug wire to snap back on after the plug is loose and pull it out. The spark plug is at the very top of the engine, the spark plug wire is a real good indicator of its location.
The easiest way to find out is to remove the wire from the spark plug and hold it about 1/4 inch from ground (the engine block is good) while someone cranks the engine in short bursts. If you are getting spark you should see a blue spark jump fromt the wire to the engine block. You might want to check all spark plug wires while you're at it. If you want to check the spark plug while you're at it, remove the spark plug and attach it to the end of the wire before checking for spark. If you get spark through wire but not through the spark plug, the spark plug is bad.
First take your seat off. then take your side panel off, find your spark plug wire to the spark plug, pull up until it comes off, make sure you are pulling on the boot and not the wire. then use your spark plug wrench that came with the ATV, it will fit right down in there. make sure its all the way down and turn to your left. Place the new plug the same way.
