Why won't your GE universal remote change the channels on your Symphonic Television?
It's hard to say. Try programming it to another set and make sure the remote works. If it does, fasten your seatbelt. There are a few "hard-headed" manufacturers who make sets that have remotes with "oddball codes" and they cannot be replaced with the universal remotes. Some Symphonic sets are like this. Buy a remote from a company that will take it back if it won't program to your set. Ask them up front about returns. Radio Shack is one such company that will take the remote back if you cannot make it work with your unit and you return it with all the stuff it came with - including the receipt. Good luck.

Depending on the exact model number, there might be different ways available for you. Although, the most simple way to get the TV into input mode for most models is to change the channels until you reach the first/last channel on the TV. Then channel up (or down - depending on what way you went before) again once more and the TV will automatically try to scroll through the inputs.

If it's a channel that has several sub-channels for example 38.1 or 38.2 then they have to divide the 19.3Mbps up between the sub-channels. Generally speaking channels that are standard definition use anywhere from 4Mbps-7Mbps. High definition channels generally use anywhere from 10-15Mbps. Digital TV, you mean? It was to provide more bandwidth. Supposedly, programs were going to be sharper, clearer BUT of course networks and station owners went the shoddy route: more channels, each one no better (and usually worse) than the analog channels they replaced.

Often there were 2 knobs: One that had VHF channels 2-13 and "UHF", and when you set it at UHF then you could use the second knob to change UHF channels 14 to about 83 (I think). These were and still are standard antenna broadcast channels. Channels with higher numbers (84 to the hundreds and thousands)… Read More

The move to digital television broadcasting reflects the change in production, storage and viewing of television content. Digital transmission adds features that analog services are unable to support and there is a flexibility in the use of transmission bandwidth that is also not possible with analog broadcasts. As far as the viewer is concerned, digital television broadcasts allow far more channels to be received and normally with better image quality than seen with analog.
