Does ice sink of float when placed in these liquids water alcohol mercury ice?

AnswerAs water freezes, what happens to the water molecules that causes ice to float?why is the unquie? My answer is that the ice has comes more dense n is light to float up then to sink down.I am no physicist, but I think ice is less dense than liquid water. After all, water expands when frozen (unique to H2O, I think?). Ice floats in water, of course. As far as pure alcohol, my best guess is that yes, it floats in alcohol, too. I have to say that ice will float on mercury due the great difference in the densities of the two substances (mercury being much more dense than ice).

Which would melt faster an ice cube of water or an ice cube of Coca-Cola?

a ice cube in alcohol would melt fastest because of the heating molecules contracting with the ice cube molecules

What will happen to the ice cube if you put in to the water with alcohol?

it will melt slowly

Do ice cubes float higer or lower in a mixed drink?

It depends on the alcohol and the percent of alcohol in the solution in which the ice is placed. Ice has a density of 0.9167 g/cm³ at 0°C. As ethyl alcohol is the one most people think of, lets use it as an example. Ethyl alcohol (pure) has a density of 0.789 g/cm3 so ice would sink rather quickly. It is not until room temperature (20oC) alcohol/water solutions approach 50% that the densities of the solution would be high enough for the ice to float.

Do pieces of ice float in salt water?

I think that salty ice cube do float in water because ice bergs float it water and they're made of salty water. i think i depends on the density (Amount of salt) in the ice

How can an ice cube float in a glass of water?

ice cube floats in water because it is dense and heavy if u compare water to alcohol then an ice cube will sink in the alcohol because alcohol is less dense which means its light.

Will a chunk of ice float higher than an ice cube?

A chunk of ice will float higher in water than an ice cube only if the ice chunk is larger than the ice cube.

Can an ice cube float on water?

yes!

Why is an ice cube able to float on liquid ice?

it's a solid

Do ice cubes float higher in alcohol?

No. Ice cubes will sink in pure alcohol, and will float lower in low-proof alcoholic beverages. This is because alcohol is less dense than ice.

What happens when you place an ice cube in a beaker of water does it float or sink?

float dua

Why did the ice cubes does not float in oil and alcohol?

Because ice is denser than the oil and alcohol.

Which will an ice cube last the longest in- water or rubbing alcohol?

Rubbing alcohol, because water takes out all of the coolness of an ice cube whistle rubbing alcohol keeps it in.

How can ice ice cube float?

It depends if the ice cube your talking about have the bigger density than the water which is 1.00G/ML then it will sink .... TO get the density of the cube u have u have to divide the mass over the volume of the cube..

acid from the orange juice has high density compared to the ice cube
