First, your character must be atleast Level 40.(make sure you fought Rayquaza and saved the world before you do this) Your team needs to be on Diamond Rank or higher. Then, go to Magma Cavern. Make sure you bring the following items: Friend Bow(optional) Reviver Seeds Apples or Huge Apples Gravelrocks, Iron Thorns, Sticks, or Silver Spikes(if you dont have any moves like Quickattack or Hydropump) Go all the way until you reach Groudon. Before making a move, make your Friend Bow your hold item. Then, use your weapons or your moves that can be used away from opponents, and when Groudon walks in front of you, start using moves on him. Use super-effective moves(if you have any) and use the weapons too. If you have moves like Attract or Stun Spore, use' em, and stop Groudon from moving. Defeat him with all your might, and if lucky, he will ask to join your team.(You may have to encounter him a few more times if he goes away) Good luck!!

I am not sure for after you beat the game but before you beat the game it is sky tower. Which is I think 25-30 floors. The boss is Rayquazza who will stop a falling star from hitting the earth after you beat it. meteor cave the boss is deoxys and it has 20 floors there are ghosts that look like deoxys but are ghosts and the floors stairs stairs wont apear until you beat the ghost on each floor just one each floor and real deoxys will join your team.

First, beat Groudon. Then go on with the story of the game and eventually you will get a dungeon called Stormy Sea (you have to talk to medicham and ekans when they show up in town square) and you go in. On the 40th floor, if you defeat it, it will join 99.9% of the time and you will get its friend area automatically. It is very easy compared to the 99 floor dungeons later, so take advantage of it. (BTW, you may have to go back twice, it wont join you on first time, I think)

in order to open the door at the sootopolis gym u have to capture GROUDON. u cant enter the cave where groudon leaves because a man wont let u. u have to go to an ohter cave where team MAGMA is. team AQUA is there too. after some battles u will have to battle the leader of team MAGMA. he will use an orb to capture GROUDON but it will fail. then go to sootopolis. at the left island enter the cave and reach GROUDON. try to capture it. i dont know what happens if u dont but i suppose its the same. then u can enter the gym after a short talk with Steven. ^^ i hope i said it correct :x
