The file system on the USB must be NFTS not FAT32 or any other file system. You also must extract the iso file using special software rather than just dropping the iso file onto the memory stick
If you have a USB drive and your BIOS supports booting from a USB device then try that.
Your laptop might have a recovery partition you can boot to. Usually this is done by pressing F10 at startup and following the instructions. If your computer does NOT have a recovery partition, you will need to boot to the discs that came with your laptop. If you've lost these recovery CDs, more can be ordered from HP.

to format a hp laptop you should use the recovery cds. before using them make sure to select the option to boot from cd/dvd rom drive from the bios menu.

Buy a windows 7 boot disk, and install it, and ittl wipe it, after that, install AVG Here: free.avg.com
You will have to modify boot.ini if you want to have both systems.

One should always have a boot disk for a computer as it stores all files required to start up Windows if your machine gets corrupt and wont boot up Windows. Also it contains various diagnostic software to help get things running again.
