I believe this question has been answered previously (maybe stated a little differently).

The "Check Engine" light means a fault has been detected someplace in the computer controlled systems. The fault can be as simple as a loose gas cap or as complicated as a faulty sensor or even a clogged catalytic converter. The only way to know for sure is to plug an ODB II code reader into the port under the dashboard (to the right of the steering column). The code reader will tell the user exactly what the problem is. Code readers can be borrowed (free) from many auto supply stores.

Would a bad EGR valve in a 2000 Toyota Solara make the engine light come on?

Yes, it would. I have an '01 Solara, and when I took it to the dealership to see why my check engine light was on, after they scanned it, they told me that it was due to a bad egr valve.

As you listed no year I cannot tell you what it is supposed to use. All, I can tell you is to use exactly what Toyota recommends and nothing else. And I would also ask you the question, Why Not put 5w20 in your Toyota Solara if that is what Toyota recommends?

Varies, a couple of weeks should be enough.

What would cause the check oil light to stay on after the gas cap was temporarily missing from a 2002 Toyota Solara?

first be sure it's the check engine light not the oil light big difference between the two. if it is the check engine light and the car was ran with the gas cap off it detected a evaporative emissions leak from the gas recirculation circut if you put the gas cap on and drive for approx one week the light may reset it self

Did Toyota ever make a 4-door solara?

The Solara is the two-door coupe version of the Camry, and is also available as a convertible. If it's a 4-door, it would not be a Solara, but rather a Camry. The Solara coupe was discontinued at the end of the 2008 model year and the convertible was only produced in limited numbers after that.

Where is the water pump on a Toyota Solara?

It would be helpful to know what year Solara you're asking about and whether you have the 4 or 6 cylinder engine. For the 2004 and later Solara the water pump is on the front of the engine (right side of the car) and is driven by a belt. Whether you have the 4 or 6 cylinder engine access to the pump is through the right side wheel well. This may be true of the earlier Generation I car as well. If your water pump is leaking or needs replacement for some other reason it willl be helpful if you download the repair manual (at least the cooling system portion) from Toyota's website or purchase the appropriate Chilton or Haynes manual for your car.
