This may help but it is only a suggestion.
If its a manual the idling may be too low. If it controlled by computer this is an area that may need investigation.
A leak in the brake booster is one common reason why a car would stall or hesitate when the brakes are pushed. There could also be an obstruction in the brake line.
Having the speedometer jump and the engine stall in the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo could be a problem with the idle and the transmission. The transmission slipping can cause the speedometer to jump.
Not using premium fuel caused that in my 2004 Navigator.

I had a similar problem on my 2002 Protege....would hesitate and feel like it would almost stall out... ended up needing a tune up and replacing some wires. not a major repair, cost me about $300
