Why would a father disown a child who only recently found him after years of estrangement because of an acrimonious divorce?

Could be a number of reasons. Perhaps he feels that he no longer has a connection after estrangement. Or maybe he feels hurt by having so many years of no contact. Also what were the reasons for the divorce in the first place? Is the child really his or is there something the child does not know?
