A generator would be forced to produce a high output kVAr if it has a lot of non-linear loads connected to it i.e. fluorescent lighting, switchmode power supplied equipment (PCs, old servers etc).

What limits the output of an electrical generator?

The amount of voltage of an electrical generator will determine the limit of the output of energy. If the voltage is too high, it can burst the pipes causing it to shut down.

What is the difference between a floating output signal generator and a grounded output signal generator?

A signal generator can be used to function in two ways. In high frequencies, one of output probes of any generator (negative probe) will be grounded automatically, hence it has to be connected with grounded parts of other elements not to create a short circuit problem. But, in the case of floating type (f<100 Hz, generally) probes of the signal generator is not grounded.

What is welding generator?

A welding generator is an electricity generator that is commonly used in places where the power needed to arc weld is not readily available. They are usually powered by gas or diesel engines and have a high, stable energy output suitable for powering a welding machine.

Does load affects fuel consumption per hour of a diesel generator?

If the generator is to maintain the same rpm and power output, then a heavier load will increase the diesel consumption. The revolutions per minute the generator runs will increase as the load increases, thereby resulting in an increase in diesel consumption to maintain the high rpm. A Generator has a governor which attempts to maintain frequency at 60 Hz for North America. For the generator to increase the power output at the same frequency, the governor will increase the fuel and air to the engine. The fuel consumption will not be linear because of the curves associated with the particular engine. The fuel to KWH is know as the heat rate curve for the generator.

Can a single phase of a three phase motor be used as a generator?

yes of course provided you satisfy the principle of generator a coil has to be rotated in a magnetic field. make arrangements to produce a magnetic field in either stator or rotor and also to draw produces current from the lets

Why is the field rheostat of a DC motor kept at minimum position while starting?

If you are talking about the field rheostat on a generator, once you have the correct voltage output set, it is very unlikely that it has to be touched again. If it is the generator's first start up, then it is best to set the field on the low side so as not to over excite the generator and drive the output voltage higher that what the generator's specifications are rated at. The field excitation voltage does not have to be set at the minimum position on every start up once it is set for the correct output voltage. A good example of this is a hospital standby generator, it starts up with no human intervention needed.

Could you inform me about high output alternators?

If you would like information on high output alternators I would suggest looking at the following very informative websites: www.qualitypowerauto.com and www.knowledgesonicelectronics.com.

How does a coal fired power station produce electricity?

A coal fired station burns coal to produce heat. The heat boils water to produce high pressure and temperature steam. The steam expands in a turbine to rotate the shaft. The turbines rotation drives a generator. The generator produces electricity which is sent out to the consumers.

In a modern coal-fired power plant the mechanical energy of turbines is converted into electrical energy by?

The turbine is solidly connected to the generator, which is similar to a very large AC generator that you have in a car, but produces a high voltage output, usually something like 20 kV. The whole assembly rotates at a rate to produce either 50 Hz or 60 Hz AC depending on the system it is part of.

Why is it that a 2000 watt Honda EU generator not power a 1140 watt high pressure sodium fixture?

The first thing that comes to mind is check the voltage of the HPS ballast. Some ballasts have multi taps so that a variety of voltages can be used to operate the fixture. Make sure that you have connected the generator's supply to the 120 volt tap. Make sure that the generator's breaker is on and that there is the correct voltage at the output. If is is a dual voltage generator make sure that you are plugged into the correct voltage output.

Is there anyway to get 120V 60hz from a 100V 50hz power supply?

A motor-generator or a solid state power converter can do this.Motor-generators are an old electromechanical technology. In this case you would use a 240V 50Hz synchronous motor and a 110V 60Hz generator with their shafts connected so the motor turns the generator.Solid state power converters use a high power rectifier to convert the input AC to DC, a precisely tuned oscillator to set the output frequency, and a high power class AB push-pull amplifier powered by the high voltage DC and driven by the oscillator to generate the output voltage.
