If a light bulb is handled roughly before it was installed, the filament holder could have been weakened. Another reason that bulbs burn out before their time is that they are being submitted to a higher voltage than the bulb rated for.
The bulb uses 7.5 watt-hours each hour, or 90 watt-hours if left on for 12 hours. 1 unit of electricity would be used in 11 days at 12 hours per day.

A 100 W light uses a power of 0.1 kW all the time it's switched on, which means it uses 0.1 kWh each hour. So it uses 1 kWh in ten hours. In a month of 30 days totalling 720 hours, it would use 72 kWh of energy.

Every once in a while, you will get a dud, but for the most part they are intended to last for up to 10,000 hours. For comparable Lumens, they save about 75% of the energy that a regular filament based incandescent (the regular kind) will use. Even with the duds, it saves you significant amounts of energy. Get a good bulb, though. You're going to want to like the light quality and a good bulb will last longer. You will save money even if they're giving away the incandescents. Ideal conditions for a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL) are when the bulb comes on, has a chance to warm up, and then stays on. Closet lights will burn out sooner (per hour of use, but since they're used so less frequently), but you will still save energy. Modern bulbs come on instantly, but they take about 30 seconds to heat up. Best of luck!

By bulb, it is assumed a light bulb is intended rather than a flower bulb or any other kind of bulb. Light bulbs burn out because they are engineered to do so. There would be less profit to the bulb manufacturer if he made bulbs to last longer, which he could if he wanted to. In the early days of bulb manufacture, a bulb was made which still continues to burn over 110 years later. See the link below for more information on the 110 year bulb.

He invented the incandescent light bulb and it took him 12 years.
A flourescent light bulb lasts between 6000 to 18000 hours.

You cannot leave it becuase the bulb will burn out and then probably do some damage to your house. You can if you close the lights after a few hours then turn it on again. Good luck!
they had oil lanterns and candles.
In those days they used oil lanterns i think......
the bulbs store a lot of energy inside itself before passing the filament and when they unscrewed it, it would stay on for quite a while
Joseph Swan invented the carbon filament because to see light back in the days. Which turned out to be a light bulb.
