When you pour hot water into a glass bottle, it heats up the glass very quickly. This causes the glass to expand suddenly and the expansion is not uniform over the surface of the glass. The unequal expansion cracks the bottle.
This will happen only if the temperature difference is quite high and the glass is weak.
It is easier to crack a glass bottle by heating it (like in a dishwasher) and then cooling it immediately by placing it in or under a stream of cold water. Here, the sudden contraction causes the glass to crack.
because a heated up bottle with liquid inside might cause it to crack. This is because the bottle the liquid will then get warmer and slowly start to crack the bottle
as long as the shell doesn't crack no. Adding heat to something wont change its mass unless something is added or taken away from the egg
Crystals probably do crack, if you think about it carefully. Practically everything can crack, I mean if you are lucky enough to break obsidian, but bedrock is another story.
Plastic bottles are 'blow molded'. Basically air is forced inside a small piece of hot plastic and it expands like a balloon, except that this 'balloon' is inside a form or mold in the shape of the bottle. It is cooled and the bottle shape stays. If the softening point of the bottle is lower than the hot liquid poured in, then the plastic 'balloon' wants to shrink again.
The crack stays there.
A crack that does not affect load bearing capacity of a structure
melted
it would probably crack
The milk bottle would crack because the hot water would cause the glass particles to vibrate and move apart, this will make the glass expand from the heat and the glass will then shatter.
