Why would a narcissist fake that he was in the hospital for a heart attack when he wasn't at all?

He must be running low or out of supply. My N insisted we go to the emergency room very late at night even though we had a 6 hour drive ahead of us, and it was for a very small cut on his head that was perfectly fine (wasn't bleeding, he felt perfectly fine, etc.). He was excited (actually happy) about going. We waited for hours. The doctor said he just needed a band-aid, but he insisted on getting it stapled. In retrospect, it was absurd. At the time, I went along with it feeling bad for him, taking care of him, etc. simply supporting his decision to go to the hospital. He received the attention he was obviously needing that night, and for a long time after as he recounted the story over and over to his family and friends. It was definitely a source of supply. Although I didn't know anything about this at the time, it is obvious now. Another reason an N might do this is to cover for something else he was doing at the time. As painful as this is, you can become a very wise and perceptive person through these experiences by learning how someone like this behaves, etc.. Take care, AlwaysLearning.
