It wouldn't-but you can drown them.
You would DIE!!
Lets just say... That rat would be MISERABLE. ( no, it wouldnt die.)
The rat would die because the venom would enter the blood stream.
It was cold and lonely.
The only thing you can do is take it to the vet. It sounds like your rat has an Upper Respitory Infection. It will not heal by itself, it is not like a human cold. If left untreated, your rat will eventually die from this.
Its not just how much, modern commercial rat poison is an anticoagulant. To die from rat poison you would not only have to take a "lethal dose" but then you would have to be injured physically so that you started to bleed. Without such an injury, your liver will eventually metabolize all the rat poison to harmless chemicals that would be excreted in urine and sweat.
Untreated rabies is fatal. Not very many humans even survive it after showing symptoms. So, yes, a rabid rat would eventually die after having bitten someone.
Yes, the dog can die if it eats a poisoned rat. The toxins are still present in the rat, and can affect the dog quite quickly. It would need to be taken to a veterinarian immediately.
If you leave out plenty of food, water and things to do it should be ok to leave it for a week at most but make sure there is another rat, plenty of food and water as I said and no where for them to get out.
