∙ 15y agoAlso called "erectile dysfunction" there are several reason why a person may not be able to achieve or maintain an erection.
An erection is achieved through engorgement of the penis, so several things can affect the ability to get one. Diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, clots and hardening of the arteries can interfere with the circulatory process, thus affecting the process. Some blood pressure medications can also cause problems.
Hormonal disorders or depression are 2 other factors. A lack of testosterone caused by thyroid problems or nervous problems is a possibility. Depression is a mental condition but can affect your physical response in a sexual situation.
Alcohol and drugs also can be a major factor. Alcohol affects the rate of blood flow and chronic Alcoholism can make it difficult over a period of time to have an erection.
Also remember, prostate cancer in men and surgery can affect the nerves. Damage of any kind to nerves and arteries can affect the blood flow and sensation. If you have not been checked for prostate cancer, I urge you to do so to make sure that is not one of the problems.
And last but not least, there is the aversion to sex. Some men may find it difficult to have an erection if there is marital problems of any kind in the relationship or past sexual abusive situation (such as being sexually abused as a child). Performance anxiety can have you finished before you even get started. In cases such as this, counseling can be a great help in solving those problems.

∙ 11y agoIt is normal for a man to lose his ability to have an erection. However, this becomes abnormal when one loses it at an early age. There are a lot of cure for this though like the use of sex pills or prosthesis.
