Some easy and very effective program would be swimming/walking, not only those exercises help you to burn calories they also improve your cardiovascular fitness.
bcuz it would not be fun or energetic (by john) I don't get the question. Joggers need and develop cardiovascular fitness. They don't need muscle injuries.
Your muscles will not get as fatigued but your fitness would improve slightly i suppose.
A possible plan that I would make to improve my fitness would be regular exercises, and may be engaging a professional trainer.

Well swimming, running and possibly kayaking or rowing can place an extra demand on the respiratory and cardiovascular system.

Because if you have a high cardiovascular fitness level, your lungs and arteries can extract and transport inhaled oxygen particles to your muscles. Whereas if you have a low cv fitness level, or have a high body fat percentage, less oxygen gets to the muscles, thus making them feel tired. Hope this helped:)
