Constituent Case Work is when a member of the government takes action on behalf of a constituent to solve an issue that would, otherwise, be left unresolved. An example would be if a constituent is having problems with the state or federal workers regarding a missing Social Security Check. If he or she is unable to resolve the issue with the state or federal workers to get a replacement check, the constituent can write to his or her House Representative, or even Senator, and, if either decide to answer the constituents plea for assistance, can pull strings to deliver the missing check on behalf of the constituent. This responding and subsequently acting on the behalf of the individual voter is commonly regarded as Case Work. It gives an incumbent a reelection advantageby generating satisfaction and goodwill amongst the voters, providing good rapport between the two. People are more likely to vote for a politician knowing that he or she is willing to fight for individual issues on their behalf.
