because of the parking pawl put the e brake on before u put the car in park the should fix your problem
There is a plastic rod inside of the shifter arm, it unlocks the shifter from the park position when the button on the shifter handle is pressed. So, press in on the shifter button and pull the shift handle straight UP (you might have to pull hard). You should be able to remove the broken pieces of the plastic rod with some wire. You might have to go to a junk yard for a replacement.
Shift interlock. Push the brake and shift into gear and if it is cold out you may have to push hard on the button on the shifter while holding the brake.
A broken spring retainer in the shifter.
if you are setting it at the transmission so you can then align the shifter properly; park would be all the way forward : AverageJoeResto.com
press down hard on foot brake at the same time move shifter.
It's called a BTSI Switch. You have to have your foot on the brake in order to press the button on the shifter to be able to shift out of Park. If the button on the shifter will not depresss, it is probably just that. It is integral to the shifter. You have to get the WHOLE unit. Take a friend to a junkyard and pull the whole assy. I did and it wasn't hard. Works perfect
Insert key. Turn to ACC. Push brake. Push button on shifter. Move shifter out of park. It helps if park lock cable is not broken, and if vehicle is not on an incline.
blown fuse under hood check all brake fuses....also could be bad relay at shifter u have to take shifter loose to replace at bottom of shifter
Key is designed to not come out unless the transmission is in the park position. If the shifter is in park but the transmission is not, then the linkage (which hooks the shifter to the transmission) has somehow come out of adjusment. It will need to be adjusted - I would suggest having this done by a professional.
If you cannot move the shifter out of the park position then you have a problem with the shifter cable or the brake safety lock. If you can move the shifter to the drive position, and it doesnt go in gear then you are a few quarts low on transmission fluid
Check fuses, and check the shifter lock switch on the brake pedal.
transmission shift bolt loose try pushing gear shifter all the way back to park
