One would attend alcoholic anonymous because it is realized there is a problem, but one doesn't want everyone to be aware of their situation, so they can attend these meetings and receive support and assistance with others who are in their same situation.

Furthermore, the 12 steps of AA work to create a framework or basis for living that people can use to live their lives happily, peacefully and completely all without the use of alcohol.
In recent years, this definition has been extended to include being free from all mind-altering chemicals such as marijuana, cocaine, and heroin, as few people can claim that they use alcohol exclusively. But members refer to themselves as alcoholic primarily because it is the singular entity that binds them all together in unified action.

their is a print out which is a book mark that they give you in AA, ITS YELLOW and it tells you where to find -the word s-friendship-love-sex-family,ect by page and where it is exactly in the book, but you have to go to an AA meeting to receive this marker. sometimes just reading it for yourself and using a yellow marker to underline these things couldn't hurt either, but the book also comes from the AA group, and its 11.00 dollars, if you go on-line but at a meeting its free.
