Why would one windshield wiper stop working but not the other on a 2004 Chevy cavalier?

I have a 2005 cavalier - under the windshield guard one of the windshied arm has broker off or dislodge. I don't have a permanent fix,but you just can re-attached the arms and it may stay on for a whileActually, if you take the motor and the wiper rack off the vehicle and drill a small hole through the centre of the metal ball that the plastic grommet attaches to, you can then set the plastic grommet back on the ball and drill back through the hole in the metal and through the plastic grommet. Enlarge the hole in the plastic grommet slightly and then attach the two together using an appropriate sized screw with a locking nut. Use a small washer at the top and the bottom of the screw and nut assembly and smear some grease on in to keep the new joint lubricated. Put the unit back in the car and you're good to go. I've done it on the Cavalier and my Ford truck and they're both working fine now....probably better than new, seeing as the plastic tends to wear easily. Suppose that's why they use plastic....to spend hundreds of dollars to buy their new parts !! Good luck with your repairs !!!
