The HPV test done with or soon after a pap typically looks for high-risk (cancer-causing) subtypes. The pap smear looks for changes on the cervix that could indicate cancer or precancerous changes on the cervix. Many of these problems, but not all, are caused by HPV. Your health care provider can give you more information based on the kind of abnormal pap result you had. Without that information, no specific answer is possible. Some may have this combination of results due to other infections, other HPV types, or problems with the lining of the uterus. Ask your health care provider what the possibilities are for your specific result.

Does the NuvaRing need to be removed for a pap smear?

No, it does not need to be removed for a Pap smear. The annual gyn exam and testing can be done with the Nuva Ring in place. Not that I know of. I have had a pap smear done with it in. It may just be the practitioner's preference. If so, then she/he can probably remove and place it back immediately after the exam. But I would leave it in and inform my practitioner.

What does the medical abbreviation ABFND mean?

I believe it is actually abbreviated AbFnd, and that it indicates an Abnormal Finding in whichever subsequent field. For example: AbFnd Pap Smear, would indicate that there was an abnormal finding in that test.

Can you get pregnant if you have an abnormal pap?

You can get pregnant with an "abnormal" pap.It would possibly be in your best interrest to have a follow up test first and possibly removal of the few cells that causes the test to be "abnormal".The Pap smear test detects changes in the cervix, which may become cancer. However, having an abnormal Pap smear test result does not necessarily mean you have or will get cervical cancer. This is especially true for women who follow their doctor's recommendations for when to have the Pap smear test.A thin layer of tissue, composed of cells, covers the cervix. As cervical cells develop, the cells on the bottom layer move to the surface of the cervix. Sometimes, during cellular development, cervical cells may become damaged or abnormal. When this occurs, these cells develop in an abnormal way and sometimes require removal to prevent cervical cancer from developing.

Do you nead to have a smear test after a recently done MRI test for a slipped disc. wouldn't anything abnormal shown up in that?

Yes, you still need to have a pap smear. An MRI done to check for a slipped disc is not testing for the same things that a pap smear tests for, nor is it looking at the same areas of the body.A pap smear is designed to find changes in the cells of your cervix. These cells are very small, and such changes would not show up on an MRI.

How often should a woman get a pap smear?

Women 21 to 65 with no history of abnormal pap smear get cervical cancer screening about every three to five years. Talk with your health care provider for advice specific to your situation and health history.

How does a stained smear of S epi and E coli made from 7-day-old cultures would appear?

A 7-day-old culture may appear gram negative, when the organmisms are actually gram positive. Thus, S. epi would appear gram negative, and E. coli gram negative.

Can a Doctor see vaginal Dysplasia by doing a pap smear?

Not really, as he has to send the smear out to a pathologist who will take a look at the smear under a microscope. The pathologist will send a report back to the doctor who took the smear. The first doctor will then let you know what the results are.

Obtaining a pap smear uses medical asepsis. There is no break in skin when getting a pap smear.

Why is it important to include both gram negative and gram negative organisms in a smear prep when you are performing the gram stain?

The point of the gram stain is to differentiate between two things, with out both positive and negative gram cells there would be nothing to differentiate between, defeating the purpose of the process.
