Expository essay
Topic sentences relate to paragraphs not essays, essays are made up of several paragraphs. A paragraph topic sentence depends on what the points are in the essay as I don't anything about your essay plan it would be senseless for me to suggest a topic sentence
That really depends on what the topic of your essay is.If the essay is about The Pelican Brief then, yes, it would be extremely helpful to read it. If your essay is on a topic that is explored within The Pelican Brief then, again, it would be helpful to read it but it wouldn't be completely necessary.
I'm happy to help with that. What specific topic would you like me to write a persuasive essay on?
A good essay topic about the effect of cinema on the youth would be to address violence in cinema. Another topic could be about mature themes and cinema ratings.
A specific topic like the impact of social media on teenage self-esteem would be narrow enough for a problem-and-solution essay. This allows for a focused discussion on the problem and potential solutions within that specific context.
A persuasive topic for a person who wants a dog would be related to why they want a dog. For example, the topic could be, "dogs are good for a person's health".

expository
The topic of an article is what the article is all about. You can use the terms topic and subject almost interchangeably. The idea of the topic would be more specific than the subject. Your Subject might be George Washington's military techniques. Your topic could be the brilliant strategy of Trenton. Your first point would cover how he moved his so called dispirited army across the Delaware River in the middle of winter when armies stay indoors to fight the battle of Trenton.
