Why would the US government keep UFOs or aliens a secret if there are any?

To keep the public from reacting in a negative way. If people believed the human race could be destroyed at any moment, who's to say they would continue following the law?
They would hide them, in my opinion, to keep the public tame.

Next day in the paper the military denied even seeing the UFO and saying there was nothing there but yet while the army was there they would NOT let no one near the crash sight, but they say nothing was there.The evidence is all around. Don't believe everything the government tells you.
