The only engine used in a Dodge vehicle that does not have a timing chain or belt would be the Cummins diesel. The Cummins diesel uses timing gears.
Most likely a 5.9 liter cummins turbo diesel 12v
Answer 1: Yes, but a 6bt Cummins would be the fastest. If you go with a Cummins, get 12 valve. Answer 2: The Suspension is not strong enough on a 1500 (1/2 ton) to handle the weight of a diesel motor.
in this truck it would have a 12 valve 5.9 liter cummins diesel in it
No. To my knowledge never have. The diesels that dodge has used have always been 6 cylinders. Now, some of the older(75ish?) heavy duty trucks (3ton and over) MIGHT have had a v8 diesel, but it would have been a cummins or a cat or detroit...
Considering that a diesel pickup truck can't use gas I would say that there aren't any diesel trucks that get good gas mileage. If you were wondering which diesel truck gets the highest miles per gallon then I would say you should look at the Dodge Cummins diesel.
Cummins is good. Dodge is not. Cummins has always been a good engine. Dodge is lucky to have the contract with Cummins. I have 2 Dodge Cummins (an 1992 and 2006). Both have electrical problems and the transmission in my 2006 isn't great and that's with stock power and only 93,000 miles. The 12-valve Cummins is all mechanical- easy and cheap to get power out of it. The 24-valve Cummins is computerized- have to buy a programmer. The best combination would be a Cummins in a Chevy.
Injectors and fuel system would likely be ruined, it'll smoke heavily, acceleration would be greatly affected. A very costly mistake.
dodge ram 2500 with a 5.9 cummins diesel. The dodge is made of steel not plastic and is a proven work truck. The repairs(if any) will probably be cheaper and the resale value will be higher
The rumor originally was that Dodge and Nissan would both go with the 5.0 Cummins V8 for their 1/2 ton pickups. However, Dodge went with the VM Motori engine. VM Motori is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat.
Cummins makes a wide range of commercial, marine, and industrial diesel engines. Perhaps it would help if you told us which Cummins engine you had in mind.
The "Dodge" diesel is actually a Cummins heavy truck engine. With proper maintenance, it should last about 250,000 miles. The injectors will need replacing every 100,000 miles. I would say 500,000 is average for the engine. I do not agree about the injectors. The truck will wear out before the engine does.
