Why would the sides of refrigerator and freezer about 8 inches wide at front by doors from top to bottom be very very hot any ideas?

Would it not perhaps be that it takes a lot of power to run a fridge/freezer and so this causes heat? I'm not really sure though, I have noticed the same on mine!
