when the welfare check wont cover the beer and the bearings, you need to make a hard choice..bearings or beer...choose beer.that way when the engine blows, you wont care cuz you are drunk.
If you are talking about the crankshaft rod bearings, you can just remove the oil pan, and replace each crank bearing one at a time without actually removing the pistons. But to replace the piston pin rod bearings the pistons will have to be removed. IMO, if any of these bearings are worn bad enough to need replacing, then the engine needs a complete overhaul.
The bearings on the crankshaft are worn out. A complete engine overhaul is needed.
I'm no mechanic, but from what I've read in my Hayne's Repair Manual, a complete engine overhaul involves replacing piston rings, reboring or honning cylinder walls, replacing pistons (if the cylinders are rebored), replacing main and connecting rod bearings, regriding the crankshaft to restore the journals (if needed), and restoring the valves. Rebuilding parts like the starter, distributor, carburetor and alternator while the engine is being overhauled is common to ensure that the entire runs like new but isn't always necessary. Hope that answered your question to your satisfaction! And if you plan on going ahead with an engine overhaul, good luck and have fun!
It is a complete rebuild. Replacing all bearings, rings, gaskets, inspecting heads, and replacing water pump, and any other parts necessary.
What kind of bearings??Engine, wheel, trans, diff.?????
Rings always need replacing during an overhaul. Why go to all the trouble without replacing the wrist pins? I would replace all parts that wear. Otherwise you are not doing a complete overhaul.
Knocking as opposed to pinging or ticking, usually means seriously worn bearings of some sort. Time for an overhaul.
Replacing pistons is part of a complete engine overhaul. This is NOT something to conquer yourself if you need to ask how to do it. An engine overhaul requires numerous special tools and skills that are well beyond the average DIY or backyard mechanic.
was the engine removed before the overhaul or was the overhaul carried out in the vehicle? was the engine removed before the overhaul or was the overhaul carried out in the vehicle?
The engine will require an overhaul or replacement. The engine will require an overhaul or replacement.
Yes, it's a good idea to smear a little assembly lube on the bearings when you put them in.
Just remove pan and change bearings.
