Sometimes new equipment doesn't work properly with old version of BIOS, when you flash it (if it's supported), you enable new features and proper communication between the motherboard and new equipment.

There might be two possible situations where it could be necessary:

* You want to reset your BIOS to manufacturer defaults. Note: There should be an option in BIOS menu for this action.

* Resetting password of BIOS. Note: It might not work with nowadays hardware. Requires more research.

After removing the battery from your motherboard BIOS would reset and all passwords and settings would go back to defaults of manufacturer.

How do you update your motherboard?

The motherboard can be seen as the part of the computer that ties everything together. This is usually not updated. If you need a new motherboard it would probably be because you want to update another part of your computer. Once your updating a couple things, you might consider just getting a new computer (the box itself, not necessarily the screen, printer...) On the other hand if your motherboard is broken, you may just replace it. Of course if you know enough about computers to tell that it is the motherboard that is broken you probably know how to replace it...

Can reinstalling the BIOS affect personal files?

No, flashing the bios will not affect anything that you have in windows, unless you make a mistake with the flash and have to reinstall windows. Make sure you read your manual on the exact method of how to flash your bios, and only do this if you have problems, you just don't update them for no reason, this does not make the system run better, there are specific reasons to do this. You could actually cause problems. Most of the time, the reason you would do this is if you have a new processor that you want to put in and it needs the new version of the BIOS to run. Or if this is a fix to a problem that the MFG has found and this is a fix, and you have the same problem. Its not a cell phone, the BIOS should only be flashed for a reason, just want to make sure you understand this.

You are having problems with your sound card and you want to remove it Where does it be and how can you remove it?

A sound card can either be integrated into the motherboard, or in one of the expansion slots. If it is integrated into the motherboard, it cannot be removed, but it can usually be disabled in the BIOS. If it is in an expansion slot, you need to remove the cover of the case, and remove a single screw that holds it in place, and then pull it out.
