2 most logical reasons are your starter or your starter relay. also, the possibility of a fuse, for the starting issue. as for cutting off, that complicates the diagnosis
first things first, check fuses, namely the ECM (or PCM) fuse and the starter fuse. if both of these are good, you may be looking at needing a new computer (ecm, ecu or pcm are popular lingo) before condemning the computer, try jumping the two posts on your starter solenoid. if the car cranks, it could be the solenoid that caused it to not start
granted, this is all speculation and i would have to physically look at the vehicle to properly diagnose the problem, as there is a whole laundry list of other possibilities such as:
battery died as a result of the alternator going
motor ran out of oil and siezed up
motor is hydro, or vapor locked

i have a 2001 Chevy tracker and i just replaced the crank sensor. i have been having a problem with mine not cranking. i would drive it and cut it off. it would not crank up until after it sat for a while. the crank sensor has not fixed the problem though. you have to take the tranmission out and take the flywheel off. the sensor is behind it. hopes this helps. i got a sensor at napa for about $100. advance auto parts wanted about $174 for it i think
