A dog might chew things for a variety of reasons...
If it's young, it might be teething, and it feels the same kind of "itchy pain" that humans feel when teething. A favorite way to relieve that feeling is to chew something, and they're not too awfully picky about what... Any interesting thing that's within reach will do, even solid steel.
A more mature dog might chew out of anxiety... Particularly if left alone and not accustomed to it, or adapted to it. Being alone is a very unnatural and uncomfortable thing to a dog, and they will be nervous and anxious until they learn that, although you go away from time to time, you're not 'lost', they're not 'lost', and you'll always be back.
Another reason dogs chew is boredom. Chewing is a comforting pastime, and they don't automatically understand why you'd not want them to chew on some things, or what those things are.
Best bet, in general, is to make sure they have toys or rawhide bones to chew, keep your phone out of easy reach, and give them a good, firm "No!" when they go after the wrong thing... Most dogs are pretty smart, and they'll learn what not to chew on with the right help from you. :-)
black labs like to chew up everything
They would do that to get attention from you or someone else. They also like the different taste and texture!
If the dog is a puppy, he may be chewing up his toys because he is teething. Some dogs chew on things because they are stressed or worried just like people bite there finger nails.
dogs like to chew bones. The best bones my dog likes to chew are rawhides and pigs ears. My dog likes to chew anything he shouldn't - shoes, toys, carpet, steps, sofas etc. Here is what he gets up to... http://doggy-bloggy.co.uk
A pet dog uses his back teeth the post, to chew up dog food and bones. Thanks ERIC
It doesn't matter what size the dog is, if you have to cage it up it'll probably chew/whine/mess everywhere.

The dogs chew up the carpet and are asked if it was delicious or not.
Make it unpleasant for the dog - either by spraying a foul-tasting gear over your stuff, or by squirting the dog with a water pistol when you see him starting to chew something. It he is a young dog, he is still developing his teeth and needs to chew, so buy him something he can chew on, like a chew-toy, and encourage him to use that instead of your household possessions. A short-term solution is to see a vet or pet-store and get a muzzle though in the long term it would be better to train your dog properly and put up with a few chewed-on items.
I don't think so. dogs naturally chew things up and until you teach them not to there going to chew everything they can get in there mouth. your dog most likely isn't chewing clothes because he/she likes you, but because dogs like to chew stuff whether it's food, furniture, or your clothes!
