How do you know their crying rather then inviting all their friends and throwing a random party if your gone? XD. Dog's cry when you leave because they are pack animals, which means they follow the alpha ((you)).
Wolves and dog's are much more alike then we think when it comes to actions. In wolf packs, it is not normal for the alpha to leave the pack behind, so when your dog sees you leave, he/she may think you are abandoning them.
There are a few other theries of why dog's cry, but I don't have much time to post more then this one.

Dogs are social animals and your family is the pack.
If you cannot take him with you give him something to do.
My dog did the same thing and whenever we went to bed or went away I would break out a nice rawhide chew toy and fill his kong with peanut butter, no more messes.

∙ 14y agoOne reason that dogs run away from home is because they can smell female dogs. Another reason is that some dogs pick up scents and they have the urge to run away so they do it. My neighbor lost her dog 2 years ago and about one week later after she lost her dog they found it safe and sound and returned it to her. Now my dog ran away and I hope he's safe. My dog ran away on New Years Eve so, he was either scared of the fireworks or he just got lost in the dark.

∙ 14y agobelieve it or not, when you leave your dog alone, he will miss you. that is why they whine, they want you to come back, they just need to get used to the fact that you are not going to be around all the time.
this is also the reason why a Staff will chew everything when you are not in the house, they are the worst for missing their owners.

∙ 14y agoMy father's dog does it all the time when he leaves for work. I suspect its because the dog has formed a deep attachment to him and possibly feels abandoned when Dad leaves the house.
