It may be over heating or could have a short in the traces that transmit the electricity.

If your talking about the fan setting it sounds like the switch is bad. Possibly a bad switch, but more likely a bad blower motor resistor, which you can purchase at most auto parts stores for $20.
Depending on the year, make and model and if it has a pressure switch or a thermostat you can change if from 5 to 50 degrees....................
