Because the ' angel' wanted Jacob to realize that he was actually the Pre-Incarnate Jesus Christ who wanted Jacob to be broken not just spiritually but physically as well to ensure his repentance: Jacob was a stubborn man. Also, unlike an angel, God does not have 'a' name but 'many' names.

Gen 32:24-32 MKJV And Jacob was left alone. And a Man wrestled there with him until the breaking of the day. [v. 25] And when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the hollow of his thigh. And the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint as he wrestled with Him. [v. 26] And He said, Let Me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let You go except You bless me. [v. 27] And He said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob.[v. 28] And He said,Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for like a prince you have power with God and with men, and have prevailed. [v. 29] And Jacob asked and said, I pray You, reveal Your name. And He said,Why do you ask after My name? And He blessed him there. [v. 30] And Jacob called the name of the place Face of God; for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. [v. 31] And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he limped upon his thigh. [v. 32] Therefore the sons of Israel do not eat of the sinew of the thigh, which is on the hip-socket, until this day, because He touched Jacob's hip-socket, the sinew of the thigh.
